History:
Fr. E. Delplace, SJ took residence at Basanti in 1874. The next year Fr. Lackawietz, SJ came to release him for further pioneering ventures. But in 1876 he
had to leave and nobody replaced him. For 50 years Priests from Morapai used to visit once or twice a year till Fr. Meseric, SJ, who was to be real founder of
Basanti Parish, arrived in March 1930 as a permanent resident priest. Fr. Vizag, SJ, who replaced him blessed the Parish church and dedicated it to St.
Theresa of Child Jesus in 1933. In 1951, Fr. A. Gabric, SJ was appointed as Parish Priest. Soon came up a High School, a Junior Technical School,
Carpentry, a Tribal Training Centre, a Hostel and Staff Quarters etc. During the following years some of the works had to be painfully closed down.
Cardinal L.T. Picachy, SJ was Parish Priest in 1961 - 62. Archbishop Alan de Lastic had worked here as Superintendent of the Technical School from 1963-
65. Bishop Lobo was rector of Vianney Hall, Minor Seminary of Calcutta Archdiocese from 1974 - 78. The old Church of Basanti was renovated in 2015
during the reign of Fr. Molloy Mondal.
