Alcoholism is a major social disease affecting many countries of the world including India. It is very rampant in Kolkata. The 45 percent of habitants of Kolkata are suffering from alcohol and other drugs related disease. Alcoholism is preset among the adult population while most teenagers are addicted to drugs rather than alcohol. St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Centre for the treatment of Drugs and Alcohol related problems was founded by John P. a teacher by profession. He was an alcoholic. He abused alcohol for nine years and by that time he had done enough damage to himself and to others. Soon he realized that something had to be done as a sign of gratitude for his own recovery and as an answer to the rampant and monumental menaces of alcoholism and drug addiction. St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Centre thus came into existence.
