History:
The Catholics of Sonarpur constitute mainly of people who have migrated from villages to the fringes of the City of Kolkata for better pasture and of a few
families of Tribal Catholics from Bihar and Jharkhand who are employed in the railways in and around Sonarpur. From about 1995 Fr. Henry Crasta was
looking after the spiritual welfare of the people coming every weekend from Morning Star College, Barrackpore. With the growing population it was
detached from Baruipur and was erected as a quasi parish in 1998 with Fr. Pradeep Roy as the first resident priest. The existing church was initiated by Fr.
Pradeep Roy and completed by Fr. Faustine Brank and blessed on October 30, 2007.
