Rt. Rev. Shyamal Bose

Bishop of Baruipur Diocese

Most Rev. Shyamal Bose was ordained the Co-adjutor Bishop of Baruipur Diocese on June 24, 2019 in an elaborate celebration held in Holy Cross School, Baruipur. He eventually took over the responsibility of shepherding the diocese of Baruipur on May 10, 2020 in a simple Eucharistic Celebration due to Covid-19 at Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Teresa of Calcutta, Baruipur.

Bishop Shyamal Bose was born on March 24, 1961, in Gosaba, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India of late Mr. Martin Bose and late Gita Bose. He is the fourth child of seven children. He joined St. John Mary Vianney's Minor Seminary, Barasat in 1981 and studied philosophy at Morning Star Regional Seminary, Barrackpore and theology at St. Albert's College, Ranchi. He was ordained priest on May 5, 1991. As a priest of Baruipur, he served the Diocese in various capacities such as: curate in Keorapukur (1991-1994); curate in Khari (1994-1996); Parish Priest of Khari (1996-1998); Director of Baruipur Palli Unnayan Samiti, the Diocesan Social Service society (1998-2006); Vicar General (2000-2008); Parish Priest of Thakurpukur (2006-2008); Licentiate studies in Biblical Theology in 2010; Director of ABCD, All Bengal Collaborators of Development in 2011; Parish Priest of Kumrokhali (2012-2016) and Treasurer and Chancellor of the diocese from 2016-2019.
